When you're not available to answer your calls, Voicemail makes sure you're still accessible to your customers, suppliers and colleagues. It's the essential personal messaging service that takes calls when you can't - even if you're engaged, your mobile is switched off or you're simply not around.

And, you have space for up to 50 messages each up to 3 minutes long.

Stay one step ahead

Voicemail messages can let you know in advance what someone wants to talk about - a head start that lets you prepare before you ring back. And, it allows you to manage your time better by letting you decide when to return the call.

Getting started with voicemail


It's free and easy to set up your voicemail. Just call 1571 and follow the prompts - this will automatically activate the service.

To listen to voicemail

  • Press 1571 (send)

Whilst listening to your messages you can:

  • Press 1 to return to the Main Menu
  • Press 2 to repeat message
  • Press 3 to delete the message
  • Press 4 to rewind the message by 8 seconds
  • Press 44 to go to the previous message
  • Press 5 to hear the caller's number
  • Press 55 to return the call
  • Press 6 to fast forward 8 seconds
  • Press 66 to go to the next message
  • Press 7 to save the message
  • Press 9 to get help

Personalise which calls you divert to voicemail


When you first activate 1571 your voicemail has standard divert settings. Calls will be diverted to your voicemail when you don't answer the call, your mobile is switched off, you're on another call or you're in areas of reduced coverage.

To change the settings for diverting your calls, just press...

  • 15710 (send) To turn off all diverts to your Mailbox
  • 15711 (send) To turn on the standard divert voicemail settings
  • 15712 (send) To divert all your calls to your Mailbox
  • 15713 (send) To turn off divert all your calls to your Mailbox. This then resets your diverts to the standard divert voicemail settings

Changing your message alert


When you receive a voicemail message you are alerted to it. You can be alerted by being called, or receiving a text message.

To choose your alert

  • Call 1571 (send)
  • Press 1 for the Main Menu
  • Press 4 for Mailbox Settings
  • Press 3 for Message Notification Options
  • Select your message alert option

Set up a personal greeting


You can personalise your voicemail by setting up your own voicemail greeting. A recording of your voice is all it takes to reassure customers and colleagues that they have made contact. And it encourages callers to leave a message, as they know they've reached the right mobile number.

  • Call 1571 (send)
  • Press 1 for the Main Menu
  • Press 33
  • Follow the voice prompts
  • You must press # to save your recorded message which can be up to 60 seconds long

Listen to your voicemail messages from another phone


Before you can do this you'll need to set up your Voicemail Security Code.

  • Call 1571 (send)
  • Press 1 for the Main Menu
  • Press 42 to access the Security Settings
  • Press 2 to set your Voicemail Security Code

If you use a security code to access your voicemail - every time you call, when roaming or when you call from a different phone - you should check it conforms to the security code format.

Security Code formats that are no permitted:

  • Identical numbers (eg: 0000, 1111, 2222)
  • Ascending numbers (eg: 1234, 4567, 7890)
  • Descending numbers (eg: 9876, 6543, 3210)

Then to listen to your voicemail messages from another phone or when abroad


  • Call your mobile number then interrupt your greeting by pressing 9
  • You will hear a message asking you for your Voicemail Security Code
  • Enter your Voicemail Security Code and you will be able to listen to your messages

Storing voicemail messages


Your mailbox can store up to 150 minutes of voicemail messages, each up to 7 minutes long.

  • New/Unread messages - stored for up to 28 days
  • Read messages - stored for up to 7 days
  • Saved messages - stored for up to 7 days and can be resaved for another 7 days

Leave a voicemail message in another BT Mobile voicemail user's mailbox


You can leave another BT Mobile voicemail user a message when you know it isn't possible to speak to them or you don't have time for a lengthy conversation.

To leave a voicemail message directly


  • Call 1571 followed by their mobile number e.g. 157107818123456 to access their mailbox directly
  • Then leave your message
